This Saturday, February 22, Millbrae Baseball is offering Umpire Field Training at Glen Oaks Field (797 Santa Margarita Ave)

We ask that all new youth umpires attend this training led by Dan Hom. 

Please, plan to attend the age division that you would be eligible and interested in umpiring.
  
Youth Umpire Training:
9:00AM - 10:00AM - 8U Pinto Division Umpire Training for interested Youth Umpires (minimum 10 years old) 

10:00AM - 11:00AM - 10U Mustang Division Umpire Training for interested Youth Umpires (minimum 12 years old) & 12U Bronco Division for new umpires to this division (minimum 15 years old)

During the field training, youth umpires will learn the following:  
  • Responsibilities as a youth umpire, Arrive at least 15 minutes before scheduled game time. 
  • What to wear as an umpire or bring to the field. 
  • Where to find the game rules of the division - Division Commissioners will be reviewing the rules this week (most updated versions will be posted on the website under DIVISIONS), 
  • Where to find and return umpire gear, 
  • Review the game scheduled start time and no new inning limits, 
  • Review Max runs allowed, 
  • Review topics discussed during the coaches' meeting 5-10 minutes before the game time, 
  • Understand the when ball is dead or out of play, 
  • The in-the-field umpire positioning: when no runners are on base vs when runners are on a base(s), 
  • Pinto division: Pitching circle and halfway chalk lines between 1B & 2B, 2B & 3B, and 3B & Home Plate,  
  • Mustang Division and above: The behind-the-plate umpire positioning and calls,
  • What to do and Who to contact, if there is an incident on the field.  
During the preseason scrimmages, scheduled for March 3-7, we will have new umpires pair up to umpire an inning or two and rotate umpire positions for in-game umpiring training and experience. A schedule will be created for umpires to sign-up for a scrimmage during that week

Role Highlights:

  • Competitive Pay:  $15–$90 per game depending on division, plus bonus for solo umpires.
  • Flexible Schedule: Games on Saturdays (all day) and weekday evenings. Mark your Availability by Day/Hours

  • Provided Equipment: Millbrae Baseball has umpire gear available, new youth umpires will receive gear (umpire shirt and clicker) after in person training is complete and scheduled for their first game on Stack Officials

Ideal Candidates:

  • Have a passion for baseball and youth sports.
  • Are enthusiastic about teaching and demonstrating proper techniques and rules of the game.
  • Value teamwork, sportsmanship, and building community connections as a positive role model.
Physical Requirements and Expectations:

  • Physically capable of standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Knowledge of the Millbrae Baseball game rules based on division. 
  • Stay focused during game and call the game to the best of your ability. 
  • Provide credentials and experience on request or attend in-person umpire training
  • Conduct self in a professional manner with players, coaches and fans. 
  • Report any on or off field incidents to division commissioner and/or Millbrae Baseball Board. 
  • Arrive at least 15-20 minutes prior to game time ready for coaches meeting and start the game on time in umpire gear.

Minimum Age Requirements:

  • 10 years old for 8U Pinto division
  • 12 years old for 10U Mustang division
  • 14 years old for 12U Bronco division
  • 18 years old for 14U Pony division

Rate by Division (2025 Spring Season)

  • 8U Pinto Division 
    • $15/game or $20 for solo umpire 
  • 10U Mustang Division
    • $50/game or $60 for solo umpire
  • 12U Bronco Division
    • $70/game or $85 for solo umpire
  • 14U Pony Division (scheduled through Peninsula League)
    • $90/game or $135 for solo umpire
